New Zealand Cricket

By Nzbo | aUGST 1, 2009

New Zealand helped South Africa hold onto the number 1 position in ODI cricket today by beating Australia in the first of five games in the Commonwealth Bank Series.

Playing at the WACA in Perth, the Australians never settled after their series defeat at the hands of the South Africans. They could only manage to put up a total of 181 all out after 46.4 overs. Both Ponting and Clarke were run out as the confidence of the Australians continued to nose dive.

But the never say die attitude of the Australians was on display as they came out to defend the below average total. New Zealand’s opening batsman Brendon McCullum was given out on the second ball of the innings lbw b Tait, in an absolute shocker of a decision by the umpire, the ball clearly hit his pads from and inside edge. Some tight bowling by Bracken and Johnson had the New Zelanders under pressure and by the 41st over the run rate required by above 6 per over.

New Zealand then took the batting power play in the 42nd over, which immediately resulted in Bracken going for 12 runs, followed in the next over with a massive 6 hit by New Zealand’s premier batsman Ross Taylor. The ability to score during the power play seemed to be the only difference between the teams. New Zealand won the game by 2 wickets by hitting a four off the last ball. Ross Taylor’s top scored with 64 from 97 balls.

Adding salt to the wound was Australia’s slow over rate, costing the caption 10% of his match fee per over that they were behind, the rest of the player con seed 5% of their match fee per over.

The next game in the Commonwealth Bank Series is on the 6th of February.

Jesse’s Groin is New Zealand cricket

Hard-hitting New Zealand cricketer Jesse Ryder has been admitted to a London hospital after injuring his groin in a Magic Johnson style sex romp.

Concern over his groin muscle injury continues to escalate as Jesse refuses to stop bedding Women at Julio Iglesias numbers, as he believes that having multiple partners actually improves his footwork.

Ryder was unavailable to play in New Zealand’s one-run loss to South Africa, as the groin was massively inflamed after he met two cute red heads in his hotel bar.

Shortly after the match team manager Steve Hustle said Ryder, who was able to play in the tournament opener against Scotland despite the injury, had been taken to a nearby hospital, and that only male Nurses were allowed to treat Jesse.

“Jesse is continuing to suffer serious inflammation in the groin area along with general wear and tear from a high work load and has been admitted to hospital overnight for enforced abstinence,” Hustle said.

Rumours that Ross Taylor’s lower back/hamstring injury is related to Jesse being on heat seem unfounded, but the two are rarely separated.

Jesse has always been known as a sexual tyrannosaurus, but in the past it has never affected his cricket.

Hustle said “Jesse still believes he can play, but we have never seen a groin that inflamed, not even in the days of Richard Hadlee or Jeff Crowe, and we want to be sure Jesse is ok before we let him continue with his cricket and his extra curricular activities.”

Cricket: McMillan back in action

Former New Zealand batsman Craig McMillan has confirmed his availability for Canterbury's Twenty20 cricket campaign next summer.

McMillan last played for the province in a domestic one-dayer in January, 2007, before taking up a contract with the Kolkata Tigers in the unsanctioned Indian Cricket League (ICL).

He has since severed ties with the ICL, leaving the 32-year-old eligible for Canterbury duties again.

Canterbury Cricket chief executive Lee Germon today confirmed McMillan would play a role with the team in 2009-10.

"We are extremely pleased to announce that Craig will be a part of the Canterbury Twenty20 side this season. It is a real coup to have someone of his calibre and experience a part of the team."

McMillan will also be given a role as a specialist batting coach, assisting head coach Bob Carter.

"I am really looking forward to the challenge of being involved in the coaching side of things as a specialist batting coach and being able to pass on the things I have learnt throughout the years." McMillan said.

McMillan first played for Canterbury as an 18-year-old in 1994-95, going on to play 55 tests and 197 one-day internationals for his country.
